ORIGINS

Early in my study of the Course, I became frustrated with how little I understood, even after working with it for several years. The problem seemed to be the nature of its language and its 483,621 word length. For example, in our study groups, we would wrestle with a long complex sentence only to eventually conclude it was a double negative resulting in a positive statement. After I let go of my anger, I noticed there were many short sentences like, "Miracles are thoughts."  "I am spirit." and "God is Love.'' I started a file in my computer of all the interesting short sentences, being careful to mark each with a standard reference notation which would get me back to its source. This process became a hobby I called "mining the gems of the Course."

After my file grew, I decided to write a series of articles in my Church newsletter using "Gems" from the Course. Next, it became clear that to keep my file manageable, I needed to divide it into subcategories. Over the years, this evolutionary process eventually resulted in a file I felt deserved the name A Course in Miracles Abstract. Many times during this process, I asked myself, why am I spending so much time doing this with words from a copyrighted book? Then, when I heard the book's copyright was no longer valid, my mission was clear. I decided to offer my Abstract, free to the World on the Internet, in hopes of introducing others to the Course's teachings. After all, the Course opens with these three provocative "Gems:"

This is a course in Miracles.
It is a required course.
Only the time you take it is voluntary.

Since this is a free site, printing material has been made as flexible and easy as possible. At the bottom of each page of the CONTENTS section options are provided to print that page or to go to the e-book itself where any consecutive series of pages can be printed. For example if the four pages 8-11 are printed you will have all the Abstract quotes in answer to the question Who am I? To download or print the entire e-book click here.
